Moving out of your apartment in Oliver next week and you got way more junk than you thought. Stuff accumulated over three years – old furniture, boxes of clothes you never wear, kitchen stuff you don’t need, random junk in closets you forgot about. Your car fits maybe 10% of what needs to go, and the city bin is already full. This is where apartment junk removal Edmonton comes in.
Last month we cleared out a two-bedroom apartment in Garneau. Student moved back home after graduating, left behind a couch, bed frame, desk, kitchen table, boxes everywhere, and a fridge full of expired food. Parents called us panicking because they had three days to get the place empty or lose the damage deposit. We had it cleaned out in four hours.
Apartments are different than houses for junk removal. Narrow hallways, small elevators, parking restrictions, building rules – there’s alot more logistics involved. We deal with it every single day.
Elevators are the biggest issue. You gotta book them with building management, there’s time restrictions, and sometimes they’re tiny. Those old buildings downtown have elevators that barely fit a couch. New high-rises in Windermere have better elevators but you still gotta schedule time and follow building rules.
Walk-up apartments are even worse. Carrying furniture down three flights of narrow stairs from an old building in Strathcona or Queen Alexandra? That’s a workout. No elevator means everything goes down stairs manually. Takes longer and costs more labor but we do it all the time.
Parking is always complicated with apartments. Where do we park the truck? Alley behind the building? Street out front? Loading zone? Sometimes we gotta park two blocks away and haul everything to the truck. Downtown apartments are the worst for parking – nowhere to stop, meters everywhere, parking enforcement circling constantly.
Building access is another thing. Buzzer systems, locked front doors, security doors, parkade gates. We need someone to let us in or give us access codes. Property managers are great about this, individual renters sometimes forget and we’re stuck waiting outside.
One apartment building in Oliver had rules about moving hours – only between 9am and 5pm on weekdays, never on weekends. Another building in Windermere required 48 hours notice and a $100 elevator booking fee. Every building is different, which is why experience matters.
Apartment cleanout Edmonton jobs typically include furniture – couches, beds, dressers, desks, tables, chairs. Small apartment furniture is easier to move than big house furniture, but there’s usually alot of it crammed into small spaces.
Kitchen stuff adds up fast in apartments. Pots, pans, dishes, utensils, small appliances, food nobody wants to pack and move. We’ve cleared out entire kitchens where people just left everything because buying new seemed easier than moving it all.
Clothes and personal items are huge. People underestimate how much stuff they accumulated. Closets packed full, boxes of shoes, bags of clothes that don’t fit anymore. We’ve hauled out dozens of garbage bags of clothes from studio apartments that looked empty at first glance.
Electronics pile up – old laptops, monitors, printers, TVs, game consoles, cables everywhere. Most apartment dwellers are younger and went through multiple electronics upgrades while living there. All the old tech ends up in closets or under beds.
Boxes and packing materials after you move in become junk when you move out. Cardboard boxes that got shoved in storage rooms, bubble wrap, packing paper – nobody wants to deal with that stuff when they’re trying to leave.
University of Alberta, NAIT, MacEwan – Edmonton’s got thousands of students living in apartments near campus. Every April and May we’re swamped with student apartment cleanouts around Garneau, Strathcona, Oliver, downtown.
Students leave behind so much stuff. Ikea furniture that’s falling apart. Textbooks from two years ago. Cheap dishes and cookware. Futons that were uncomfortable from day one. Mini fridges, microwaves, desk lamps – all the dorm essentials that aren’t worth moving back home.
Parents call us usually. Their kid moved out and left a disaster behind, now the parents are on the hook for cleaning it before losing the damage deposit. We’ve saved alot of damage deposits by getting apartments cleaned fast.
Sometimes the student is still there but just overwhelmed. Too much stuff, no truck, no time, finals coming up – they need help getting their junk out quick. We make it easy so they can focus on school or moving on to whatever’s next.
Shared apartments are interesting. Three roommates lived together, two moved out clean, one left a bunch of junk. Now it’s a problem. We sort it out – literally – and get the place ready for the next tenants.
Property managers call us constantly for apartment junk removal. Tenant moved out and left stuff behind – happens all the time. Broken furniture, bags of garbage, random belongings they didn’t want to take. Now the unit can’t be shown or rented until it’s cleaned.
We’ve cleared out apartments in every rental building you can think of around Edmonton. Those big towers downtown, mid-rise buildings in Oliver and Garneau, walk-up apartments in Bonnie Doon, new developments in Windermere and Summerside.
Eviction cleanouts are part of this work too. Sheriff came, tenant is out, apartment is full of their stuff and trash. Property manager needs it empty immediately so they can start repairs and get it back on the rental market. We do these fast – usually same-day or next-day service.
Damage is common in these situations. Holes in walls, stains on carpet, broken fixtures. We’re not contractors so we don’t fix that, but we clear out all the junk so contractors can get in and do their work.
Hoarder apartments come up sometimes. Someone lived there for years accumulating stuff, never throwing anything away. Now the apartment is packed floor to ceiling. These take longer and need patience, but we’ve done dozens of them around Edmonton.
Moving out today and just realized you got way too much junk to deal with? We offer same-day apartment junk removal Edmonton for emergencies exactly like this.
Call or text us before noon and we can usually get to you same afternoon. Costs extra for same-day service but when you’re losing your damage deposit or facing penalties for not being out on time, it’s worth every penny.
Lease ending emergencies are common. You thought you had more time, or you kept procrastinating, and now it’s the last day and you still got furniture and junk everywhere. We’ve helped people in Oliver, Strathcona, downtown – all over – who were in full panic mode about getting out on time.
Property managers need same-day service when showings are scheduled. New tenants are viewing the apartment tomorrow and the old tenant left junk behind. We’ll come in quick and get it handled so the showing can happen.
High-rise buildings downtown and in new developments have their own challenges. Long elevator rides, strict building rules, security to deal with, parkade access needed. But the elevators usually work well and you’re not carrying stuff down stairs.
We’ve cleared apartments on the 30th floor of buildings downtown. Multiple elevator trips, coordinating with building management, working around other residents. Takes longer but we’re experienced with it.
Low-rise apartments – three or four story buildings – often have smaller elevators or only stairs. Those old walk-ups in Queen Alexandra and Ritchie with no elevator at all? We’ve carried couches, beds, and boxes down from third floor units more times than we can count.
Garden-style apartments and townhouse apartments usually have ground floor or second floor units with outside access. These are actually easier – we can park right outside your door usually, no elevators or building lobbies to navigate.
Hazardous materials – paint, chemicals, propane, batteries, anything flammable or toxic. Most apartment buildings have rules about this stuff anyway. You need special disposal for hazardous waste.
Building property – if it came with the apartment, we can’t take it. The fridge and stove that were there when you moved in? Those stay. Your own stuff? That we can remove.
Other people’s belongings. If you got roommates, we can only take your stuff unless everyone agrees. We’re not getting in the middle of roommate disputes about who owns what.
Anything illegal obviously. We’re not removing or disposing of anything that shouldn’t be there in the first place.
Edmonton apartment junk removal pricing depends on volume mostly. Studio apartment with just a few items? Maybe $150-250. Two-bedroom apartment packed full? Could be $800-1200. We quote based on what you got.
Less junk than a house usually, but access is harder. The difficulty of tight hallways and elevators or stairs balances out against lower volume. Price ends up being fair for the work involved.
We give quotes over text if you send photos. Show us the rooms, show us what needs to go, and we’ll give you a pretty accurate price before scheduling. No obligation, just helps everyone know what to expect.
Multiple apartments in the same building? Property managers get volume discounts. If you’re clearing three units in one building, we’ll give you better pricing than three separate jobs at different addresses.
Working furniture and items in decent shape get donated when possible. Students leaving behind functional stuff – desks, chairs, lamps, dishes – that can often go to charities helping people set up new homes.
Goodwill, Salvation Army, Habitat ReStore around Edmonton take alot of apartment furniture and household items. We coordinate donations as part of the service if items are donation-quality.
Most stuff from apartment cleanouts isn’t donation quality though. Broken furniture, stained items, incomplete sets of things, stuff that’s just worn out. That gets recycled or goes to the dump depending on what it is.
We sort everything. Metal and electronics get recycled. Cardboard gets recycled. Actual garbage goes to the landfill. Doing it right takes a bit more time but it’s worth it.
Condos are similar to apartments but you’re usually dealing with owners instead of renters. Different mentality – owners accumulated more stuff over longer periods, and they’re more particular about how things are handled.
Condo buildings often have stricter rules than rental apartments. More insurance requirements, more specific moving hours, fines if you damage common areas. We’re extra careful in condo buildings.
Downtown condos in Oliver, Garneau, and the core have all the challenges of high-rise apartments plus parking is usually worse. We plan extra time for downtown condo jobs.
New condos in Windermere, Summerside, and south Edmonton usually have better access and parking. Still need to follow building rules but logistics are easier.
We work in apartments all over Edmonton and surrounding areas. Downtown high-rises, Oliver walk-ups, Strathcona student housing, Garneau apartments near UofA, Whyte Avenue area, Bonnie Doon, Mill Woods apartments, Millwoods, Clareview towers, Castle Downs rentals, and every new development in Windermere, Summerside, Ellerslie, Heritage Valley.
Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Spruce Grove apartments too. If you’re within 30 minutes of Edmonton, we service your building.
We’ve probably already worked in your building before. We’re in apartment buildings every single day doing cleanouts, removing junk, helping people move on to their next place.
